Brick Booty was the first arcade game that I created and was my first time really working with Power Functions. I was inspired by a number of builds that I saw on YouTube but one thing that most of those coin pushers lacked was an overall theme.

In 2012, I was part of the award-winning Eurobricks Pirates collaboration. My contribution to the build was the 160×160 stud Imperial Fort. This machine was to honor that destroyed fort. The cabinet of the machine was inspired by the numerous mosaics that I have seen over the years at Brickworld. I thought it was be a nice touch to have the classic LEGO flags on either side of the pusher.

I had planned on this to be a larger build but I did not expect it to weigh 50 pounds in the end. The final dimensions ended up being 60 studs wide x 54 studs deep x 89 bricks tall.

Another twist on the classic coin pusher I waned to add was the use of LEGO bricks instead of coins. I thought that it would be fun for attendees, and the public, to be able to use LEGO to win LEGO. Players insert a 2×2 brick or smaller into a hole on either side of the machine to play and keep what they win. Occasionally, I would add minifigs or other small prizes to the machine to entice players to continue to play throughout the weekend at Brickworld. Much to my surprise, this build was nominated for best mechanical. It did not take home the prize but it was incredible to be nominated.

Little did I know but this machine would start me down the path to creating bigger and more complex machines as well as starting this website. Sadly, my brick supply is not limitless and Brick Booty was destroyed on February 6, 2017.

 Features

 Flaws

  • Eye-catching in size and design
  • Fun to play
  • Great theme
  • Heavy and difficult to move around
  • Mechanism caused too much strain on the motor
  • Feast or famine when it came to winning brick
  • Front lip was too tall and sometimes caused brick to get stuck and jam the pusher
  • Working tilt mechanism was very difficult to reset and fix if it broke (which it did when moving it to Brickworld)
  • Input holes were too tall for shorter guests

The guys at Beyond the Brick were looking for me throughout the weekend to do an interview. Unfortunately, that year I spent most of the public hours at Brickworld sleeping and never had a chance to talk with them. They did a full walkthrough of Brickworld and Brick Booty was featured around the 1 hour and 57 minute mark in that video.
